GINO MOTISKOAPPLIED AI & PRACTICE LEADERSHIP

LEADERSHIP IN PRACTICE

The work behind
the title.

How I handle the decisions that connect client confidence, commercial commitments, and team capability.

01

CAPACITY & COMMERCIAL JUDGMENT

Make the forecast earn the hire.

The situation

Sales confidence and delivery readiness do not always move together. An optimistic probability of win can make a temporary staffing peak look like sustained growth.

My role

I bring pipeline maturity, timing, duration, skills, and available capacity into the same conversation with executive leadership. I challenge assumptions constructively and distinguish hiring needs from work that can be covered through redeployment or temporary support.

THE DECISION I HELP MAKE POSSIBLEA defensible choice: hire ahead, cover a burst, or wait for stronger evidence.

02

EXECUTIVE SPONSORSHIP

Reset the commitment. Protect the relationship.

The situation

An AI customer-service engagement began with a statement of work shaped by a team that was no longer in place. At mobilization, client expectations differed from the scope, and dependencies around APIs, access, and security were not ready within the agreed timeline.

My role

I stepped in to make the gap explicit without making the client the problem. I clarified scope and prerequisites, established what the team could credibly deliver, and worked through options for change control, phased delivery, and a time-and-materials approach.

THE DECISION I HELP MAKE POSSIBLEAn explicit conversation about scope, capacity, budget, and the delivery model.

What changed

After an initially difficult engagement, the client was seriously considering extending the team. That was a change from the dissatisfaction at the start, not a signed extension.

03

CLIENT ADVISORY & OPPORTUNITY SHAPING

Help the client choose a practical path.

The situation

Clients often know the friction in their business but cannot specify the AI capability that might address it. Asking them to design the answer leaves the hardest consulting work undone.

My role

I ask teams to walk me through their work, test the assumptions, and build a focused prototype when it helps explain the options. I recommend a path and explain the tradeoffs. That work has helped create follow-on engagements for delivery teams.

THE DECISION I HELP MAKE POSSIBLEA clear next engagement with scope the client and team understand.
04

TALENT & PRACTICE CAPABILITY

Hire for judgment you can observe.

The situation

An AI title and polished interview answers do not establish practical capability. Recruiting needs a reliable view of how a candidate thinks, explains decisions, and responds when assumptions change.

My role

I partner closely with recruiting and use live technical discussion and follow-up questions to assess genuine understanding, curiosity, and fit for the work. I look for evidence that candidates can explain retrieval, evaluate tradeoffs, and recognize what they do not yet know.

THE DECISION I HELP MAKE POSSIBLEA clearer hiring signal and a team selected for capability, curiosity, and the needs of the practice.

PROGRESS WITHOUT FALSE CONFIDENCE

Remove the barrier.
Keep the commitment honest.

Executive sponsorship means giving the team a path forward while making the remaining risk visible.

Prove a bounded idea.

Use a pilot when the uncertainty is too great for a broad commitment. Make the next decision concrete.

Decouple the dependency.

Agree an interface schema and use a stub while a client builds the endpoint. Keep final integration and validation explicit.

Recommend a path.

Bring options with consequences. Help the client choose without asking them to solve the consulting problem for the team.

AI ADVISORY / DISCOVERY TO DIRECTION

“We want to use AI.”
Let’s find where it matters.

You know your business. You should not need to know every AI capability to ask the right question. I help teams discover the possibilities, evaluate the choices, and shape a practical first step.

It is hard to order without a menu.
My job is to help you see the choices and understand what fits.

THE CONVERSATION

Draw out the work behind the request.

Walk me through it. What do you notice, decide, and do next?

I meet with the people doing the work, ask for examples, and make their unwritten judgment explicit. The team brings domain expertise; I help turn it into a problem we can define together.

WHAT WE MAKE CLEAR ↓Shared problem statement
  • Users + friction
  • Decisions + exceptions
  • A useful outcome
What this looks like in my advisory work

I have facilitated discovery sessions, elicited decision criteria from operational specialists, challenged scope and access assumptions, and translated the findings into a leadership roadmap with a technical companion. The deliverable at this stage is a direction for decisions and a proposed pilot.

This describes my method. Client identities, project details, and internal materials are omitted.

PRACTICE OPERATIONS / HOW I THINK

Read the signals.
Build the right capacity.

I connect delivery demand, skills, and pipeline maturity to staffing decisions. The question is when to hire, when to redeploy, and when the need is a temporary burst.

Build capacity before the gap becomes a crisis.

Compare likely start dates, required skills, available capacity, and recruiting lead time. A persistent gap deserves a different response from a busy week.
